The National Weather Service in Jackson (KY) has issued a severe weather statement which includes a Flash Flood Watch for the MSPR listening area throughout eastern Kentucky.
Counties in the watch include Bath, Bourbon, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Clark, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Lawrence, Lee, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Mason, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Nicholas, Owsley, Powell, Robertson, Rowan and Wolfe.
The Flash Flood Watch is in effect through the evening of Tuesday, July 14.
A Flash Flood Watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Travel may be limited, if not impossible at times. Do not cross small streams in the road. Stay inside a strong structure during high winds. Avoid downed power lines.
Multiple rounds of thunderstorms will move through eastern Kentucky with excessive rainfall. Damaging wind gusts will also be a main threat, with instances of large hail and tornadoes possible.
