New Book Examines Life of Jesse Stuart

Jesse Stuart Elementary School

The Jesse Stuart Foundation is pleased to announce the release of Dr. James Gifford’s latest book, “Jesse Stuart:  Immortal Kentuckian.”

The new biography examines the life of the late Poet Laureate of Kentucky in broad historical context and explains that Stuart immortalized himself though enduring influences on the people who read his books and the people who knew him personally.

“This book is a comprehensive, easy-to-read biography that describes the broad range of Stuart’s accomplishments as an author, educator, conservationist, Appalachian spokesman, compulsive correspondent, world traveler, father, husband and neighbor,” said Dr. Gifford. “It would be a strong addition to school and public libraries.”

The Jesse Stuart Foundation will celebrate the release of this important new book Friday, May 8th with an Open House and Book Signing from Noon to 5:30pm.  Dr. Gifford will be signing 500 Limited Edition hardbacks that will sell for $30 each.  Every dollar from the sales of “Jesse Stuart:  Immortal Kentuckian” will go towards the completion of the Foundation’s new conference room.

“The recently-completed Conference Room is the crown jewel of the new Jesse Stuart Foundation facility at 4440 13th Street in Ashland,” observed Jesse Stuart Foundation Financial Advisor Leif Clarke. “It will allow us to continue our 30-year tradition of book signings and other public activities like one-person dramas and educational workshops.”

Several people featured in the book will also be in attendance along with other authors such as Ruby Miller who will sign her cookbook, “Simply Delicious Desserts.”

“We hope to see old friends and make new ones on May 8th,” said Dr. Gifford.
