Olive Hill Designated a Kentucky Trail Town

Bill Slone

Olive Hill has become Kentucky’s fourth Trail Town. The other Kentucky Trail Towns are Morehead, Livingston and Dawson Springs.

First Lady Jane Beshear was in the Carter County community on Monday (Nov. 17) to recognize the achievement, which is designed to help connect communities to trail systems and promote tourism.

She says the three trails developed in the Olive Hill area will bring tourists to the city, where they’ll spend money on local goods and services.

“I don’t ever go anywhere to visit that I don’t take something home that reminds me of the place that I visited. So, that’s a perfect opportunity for our local crafts people, and there are so many talented people throughout this area and all over the state. You know, it’s another way to enhance the economy.”

One of Olive Hill’s trails spans eight-point-three miles and links the city with Carter Caves State Resort Park.  Another trail, which is ten miles long, circles the city lake.
