Parts of MSU without power May 15-18

Morehead State University will have several buildings without power Friday, May 15, through as late as Monday, May 18, due to a planned power outage necessary to finalize replacement of the west campus electrical switchgear.

Buildings impacted and closed will include Howell McDowell (business office), Adron Doran University Center, Allie Young, Breckinridge, Button, Camden-Carroll Library, Claypool Young, Combs, Fields, Ginger, Lappin, Lloyd Cassity, Mignon Hall, Mignon Tower, Rader, Reed, Grote-Thompson, West Mignon and the President’s home.

During the outage, all other facilities on campus and at regional campuses will be open as usual. In addition to the power outage, a planned steam outage also is scheduled for the same timeframe to accommodate steam tunnel repairs and maintenance and installation of fiber optic cabling in the tunnels. Hot water will not be available in any on-campus facilities during the steam outage.

Offices not impacted by the electrical outage will maintain normal operations. Access to all information technology systems will continue to be available.

The Office of Enrollment Services will be open and may be reached at 606-783-2000 for additional information.

Employees in the impacted buildings are advised to check the MSU website and/or the Eagle Alert System on Sunday after 6 p.m. for a status update. In the event the work is completed ahead of schedule and power can be restored over the weekend, normal operations in all facilities will resume on Monday, May 18.

The MSU Police Departmentwill be available at 606-783-2035 to address campus concerns.
