Passengers Escape Bus Fire On I-64

More than 50 Louisville residents on their way to a casino in West Virginia escaped injury on Saturday (September 21) when their tour bus caught fire near Morehead on Interstate 64.

Passengers of the Miller Transportation Company vehicle were safety evacuated to the shoulder of the road and near a rest area. A Rowan County school bus later took the passengers to a Morehead church to await pick-up by the bus company.

Morehead Fire Chief Jeff Anderson says the cause of the fire appears to be engine trouble. The Morehead Volunteer Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze with help from area farmers.

The bus fire closed the eastbound lanes of I-64 for about two hours.
