Former Morehead State standout Chad Posthumus has signed a one-year contract with Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo of the National Basketball League of Japan (NBL).
"Congratulations to Chad and his family," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "We want players, like Chad, who have aspirations to earn their degree and play basketball at the next level. Time will tell, but I think he has a chance to be a very good professional player."
Posthumus, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, recorded 574 points, 595 rebounds and 55 blocked shots in two seasons with the Eagles. As a senior in 2013-14, the 6-foot-11 center averaged 9.6 points and 10.9 rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the floor.
In 2013-14, Posthumus ranked second nationally with 4.3 offensive rebounds per game and fourth with 10.9 total boards per contest. He posted 10 double-doubles, 17 double-figure scoring efforts and 20 double-figure rebounding performances during his final campaign.
Posthumus earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors from College Sports Madness after the 2013-14 season. He was also recognized by several Canadian media outlets throughout the campaign.
"Chad has improved his game every year, dating back to when we started recruiting him," Woods said. "Chad has terrific size and a knack to get rebounds. The pro game is played at a very fast pace, but I'm confident Chad will make the necessary adjustments."
Posthumus played for the Chicago Bulls in the 2014 National Basketball Association (NBA) Summer League. He registered 13 points and 10 rebounds in 48 minutes over a four-game span.
"I've been waiting a long time to start my professional career and can't wait to be a part of the Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo Basketball Club in Japan," Posthumus said. "My two years at Morehead State, and this summer with the Chicago Bulls, have really helped prepare me for the next level. I'm very grateful for this opportunity."
Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo posted a 31-23 record last season and tied for third place in the NBL's Eastern Conference.
