Practice Driving Tests Available Online

Terry Prather, The Ledger Independent

The Fleming County Public Library is partnering with a new website that allows motorists to take free practice driving tests.

According to Young Adult Services Director Hillary Worrix, the website has already been launched and offers 10 practice motor vehicle tests, three commercial driver's license and six motorcycle tests. Three handbooks for each license test are also available online.

"I don't believe the courthouse gives out the handbooks for permit tests any longer," Worrix said. "Now, that handbook can be read online for free. This is a great new tool that can be used by anyone who wants to get their regular license, CDL or motorcycle license."

Worrix said FCPL chose to partner with the site after the American Library Association sent out an email informing libraries around the country of the new program.

"They send out things like this occasionally," she said. "Sometimes they're free and other times they aren't. This program really stood out, though. We believe it will help a lot of people."

Worrix said that although the website is geared more toward teenagers first learning to drive, there is something on there for people of all ages wanting to get their drivers license.

The website is easy to navigate, according to Worrix. In order to find a practice test, log on to: http://www.driving-test.org and click "start." The tabs at the top of the page show the type of license test, which leads to links to each test provided. There is also a tab for each driving tests handbooks.

“The website is also available in Spanish,” Worrix said.

If a person interested in using the site does not have a computer at home, they can go to the FCPL and get a guest user number from the front desk. A link to the website is on the library's computer's homepage, according to Worrix.

"We really hope to see people taking advantage of this program," she said.
