Public Forum Planned to Discuss Morehead to Vanceburg Road Projects

Kentucky Department of Transportation

Those who travel between Vanceburg and Morehead are invited to attend a public meeting to discuss the future of several roadways in the area.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Allen Blair said a meeting will be held July 7 from 5-7 p.m. at Lewis County High School gymnasium. During the meeting, the public will be invited to share safety concerns, ask questions and suggest improvements or changes to the roadways.

The highways involved include Kentucky 59, Kentucky 377, and Kentucky 344, from Kentucky 9 in Lewis County to Kentucky 799 in Rowan County.

"There are three rural two-lane routes that connect Vanceburg to Morehead," Blair said. "We want to hear from people who travel those routes on how we can make travel safer and more convenient."

Blair said an engineering firm, Qk4, who was hired to conduct a $500,000 planning study for practical improvements on the roadways, will be available during the meeting to answer questions.

"We're looking at what we can do to improve safety," he said. "We have data from police reports that show the amount of accidents that occur on these roads, but we also know there are a lot that never get reported. We want to hear from everyone about their experiences and if they've had an accident that hasn't been reported."

According to Blair, information, including maps of the area, will be available for guests to look at during the meeting.

"We're looking forward to hearing from everyone," Blair said. "And who knows, maybe there doesn't need to be any improvements, but that's what we want to know from the people who travel these roadways everyday."
