Rifle Squad Gears up for OVC Championship in Pennsylvania

 Morehead State's rifle team geared up for next weekend's Ohio Valley Conference Championships by competing at the Palmyra Sportsman's Association Invitational in Pennsylvania this past weekend.

The 18th-ranked Eagles competed head-to-head against No. 16 Akron, No. 15 Navy and No. 13 Mississippi, shooting an aggregate 4,590 total. Akron edged the Eagles with a 4,594, while Navy fired a 4,630 and Mississippi came in with a 4,633.

Sophomore Brandon Bryer highlighted the Eagles' air rifle effort, tallying a season and career-best 585. Freshman Jesse Moyer was right behind with a 584, just two shy of her career best. Freshman Karly Potts, from nearby Ephrata, Pa., notched a 580.

In smallbore, junior Joe Fischer topped the team with a 570. Freshman Alexa Potts and junior Seth Baker, also Pennsylvania natives, carded 569 scorecards.

The Eagles will serve as hosts to Murray State, UT Martin and Jacksonville State for the OVC Championships. Practices begin this Thursday with a banquet to be held Friday night. Competition will take place in Button Range on Saturday and Sunday.
