Road Crews Clearing Roads Following Ice Storm

Kentucky Department of Transportation

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews are concentrating on clearing downed trees and removing debris from roadways across northeast Kentucky in the wake of Tuesday night's (Feb. 4) ice storm.

In some areas, such as KY 168 in Boyd County, KY 59 in Carter County, KY 1459 in Greenup County and several locations in Elliott County, roads are blocked by trees and closed to through traffic.

On KY 801 along Cave Run Lake in Rowan County a mudslide has closed the roadway to through traffic, and a detour using KY 519 and US 60 has been established. High water in typical low-lying areas of Greenup, Carter, Fleming and Rowan counties has closed roadways.

Motorists are advised to travel with caution, especially in debris- or flood-prone areas. Crews are working and will clear roadways and remove fallen trees, but it will take time due to the number of issues that have arisen.

Updated road conditions are available on District 9's social media accounts - at Twitter.com/KYTCDistrict9 or Facebook.com/KYTCDistrict9 - or statewide by calling 511.
