Rogers Announces Bill to Fund Disaster Relief

Nola

Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers says a bill approved in the House Appropriations Committee on Tuesday (July 14) fully funds the disaster relief request from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The Somerset Republican chairs the panel and says that’s one of the reasons he supports the measure that allocates nearly 40-billion dollars in discretionary funding to the Department of Homeland Security.

“The bill also ensures that important first responder grants are maintained so that our boots are on the ground and are efficient and quick to address any and all needs following a disaster event.”

Rogers says the bill also includes funding to secure the nation’s borders, enforce immigration laws and protect against cyber threats. Rogers says the bill also includes money to fight terrorism and prevent drug smuggling.

Rogers adds the committee he chairs makes disaster relief a priority, and he knows how important that is following devastating flash flooding in eastern Kentucky this week.
