Rowan County Battles Drug Trafficking Problem

Delco Times

An official with the Rowan County Sheriff’s office says his department is still trying to get a handle on the county’s newest drug problem…heroin trafficking.

Chief Deputy Joe Cline says most of what is coming into the county can be traced back to Detroit, adding that dealers are often utilizing bus stations in Ashland and Lexington as connection points for their business.

With his deputies still working to end Rowan County’s pill problem, Cline admits that having to also battle heroin is putting further stress on the county’s deputies.

“It seems like we’re always being asked to do more with less because of budget situations and you know, we’re not the only ones. It’s just that way across the state and also that way across the United States when you talk with other law enforcement agencies. You know, we’re gonna battle up with what we’ve got, use our tactics and methods within the law and we’re gonna do our best to get all the dealers that we can off the street.” –Joe Cline

Cline says the Rowan Sheriff’s Department is working with other law enforcement agencies around Kentucky and across state lines to clamp-down on heroin traffickers.
