Rowan County Education Funding Discussed

Rowan County School Superintendent Marvin Moore says he’s grateful that Governor Beshear is calling for additional money for primary and secondary education in his new budget.

However, Moore notes that the proposal would only restore funding to 2008 levels.

In addition, Moore says, the governor is asking for a two percent pay raise for teachers.

“If they go back to the 08/09 funding, and then it brings in 120 at two percent increase, both certified and classified in our school district, it’s ‘gonna cost us right at 200 thousand dollars.” –Marvin Moore

The bottom line, says Moore, is that Rowan County still loses 80 thousand dollars. He says he doesn’t want anyone to think that the proposed hike in K through 12 funding would solve all the schools’ problems.
