Rowan County Farmer's Market Structure Planned

Rowan County will support an effort by the local Farmer’s Market to put up a building at its location in downtown Morehead. City officials recently approved giving the Farmer’s Market one-thousand dollars for the project, while the county has agreed to help take care of some of the infrastructure needs.

Rowan County Judge Executive Jim Nickell says the planned structure will be an open air pavilion with about eight to ten bays.

“There will be several bays where farmers can bring their produce in. It cannot be a permanent structure, so it will be kind of a pole building, something you can remove if necessary. That’s due to the agreement with the state transportation cabinet. The county actually owns the property, but we do have some restrictions there.” –Jim Nickell

Officials from the Rowan County Farmers Market are also working with the Gateway Area Development District to apply for a state grant to help pay for the planned pavilion.
