Salato Wildlife Education Center Hosts Hunting and Fishing Day

Lite 98.7

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will host a celebration in honor of National Hunting and Fishing Day at the Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Activities and demonstrations will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (EST). Admission is free during the event.

National Hunting and Fishing Day has been celebrated in the United States for more than four decades. The Salato Center’s celebration of this event has traditionally been held in September in correlation with the national initiative, but will be held in August this year.

“We hope that by holding this event in late summer, people will get a jumpstart on preparations and excitement for upcoming fall hunting seasons,” said Salato Center manager Brent McCarty.

Hunting and fishing licenses are available for purchase at the center and individuals can complete the range day portion of their hunter education course during the event.

Activities for this special event will include 3-D archery, archery trap shooting, air rifles, laser shot, fishing and casting.  All equipment, poles and bait will be provided to participants. A falconry presentation will also be featured, as well as a hunting retriever dog demonstration.

The Western Hills High School FFA (Future Farmers of America) will provide concessions during the event.

The activities being held at the Salato Center recognize the contributions to conservation made by 713,000 Kentucky hunters and anglers, and the 35,000 jobs that hunting, fishing and outdoor activities support.

For a detailed list of activities and times, contact the center at (502) 564-7863.
