Same Sex Marriage Debate on KET

A federal judge’s ruling that Kentucky’s ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional will be overturned….That prediction is from the general counsel for the politically-conservative Family Foundation.

Stan Cave analyzed Judge John Heyburn’s decision Monday on KET’s Kentucky Tonight. He appeared with Louisville lawyer Dan Canon, who supports same sex marriage. Canon thinks the ruling is legally sound. Cave believes the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals will reverse Heyburn’s decision, just as it did in January when the last equal protection case came before that court…

The case is to be argued before the appeals court August 6th. Kentucky is among three other states seeking to preserve their prohibition on gay marriage.

Both sides in the same sex marriage dispute in Kentucky are claiming a ruling against them disenfranchises citizens of the Commonwealth. Martin Cothran of the Family Foundation and Chris Hartman of the Fairness Campaign debated the issue Monday on KET’s Kentucky Tonight.

Judge Heyburn’s decision has been appealed to the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. It will hear the case August 6th.
