Secrest Crossing Open to Traffic

Dickinson College

The bridge at Secrest Crossing in Fleming County has been replaced and is open to traffic.

Fleming County Judge-Executive Larry Foxworthy said the bridge replacement was completed last week and traffic flow has been restored.

According to Foxworthy, construction consisted of widening the bridge from 12 feet to 20 feet in order to make it safer for vehicles to travel, because the former bridge only allowed for one lane of traffic at a time.

Foxworthy said the other issue had been asphalt building up on the road, due to having been resurfaced so many times. The build-up also affected the weight of the bridge.

"All that remains now is a little cosmetic work and paving," he said.

The bridge is located about a mile and a half from Kentucky 559 and a mile from Kentucky 32.

The construction was completed by Lowe Construction Company for $55,000, which was funded through a grant from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Rural Secondary Fund.

The money was a part of the 80/20 fund in which the KTC funds 80 percent of a project, while the county is required to cover the other 20 percent. The 20 percent was covered by in-kind labor, according to Foxworthy.
