Shriners Hospitals for Children is within striking distance of a fundraising goal that will mean not just upgrades but an entirely new facility.

The Shriners organization has announced plans to move from its Richmond Road building to a new $47M dollar state-of-the-art healthcare facility across from the University of Kentucky's Chandler Hospital – an objective the group is well on its way to achieving as they close in on an $8M dollar capital campaign goal.

But at a luncheon Thursday, the group had no trouble looking past the ledgers and putting a face on their cause.

Carlola Foster, who credits the survival of her daughter Perry Cate to the Shriners, told the audience, "There is no way for me to look you men in these funny hats, who were simply people who drove silly little cars in parades, and brought a circus to us every now and then... there is no way for me to say enough to you about who you have given us."

By relocating to UK, the group hopes to combine their pediatric orthopedic expertise with the specialty care provided at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

Construction is slated to begin early next year.
