The first six months of the SOAR initiative are history and Congressman Hal Rogers says they’ve been “great”. SOAR stands for “Saving Our Appalachian Region” and it’s a joint effort started by the Republican lawmaker and Democratic Governor Steve Beshear to improve the economy of eastern Kentucky.

Rogers says a grant to fund 52 full-time VISTA workers to assist with SOAR has also been secured. In addition, the Congressman says the director of the federal Centers for Disease Control will be visiting the region early next month to assess health care needs.
