SOAR Summit

Governor Beshear and Congressman Hal Rogers say it’s essential that the summit on the future of eastern Kentucky they’re planning for next month receive strong support from the people who live in the region.  The two spoke about the December 9th forum at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center in Pikeville during an interview on PIKE TV.

The governor says the purpose of the initiative named “Shaping Our Appalachian Region” is to share ideas on improving the area’s economy, which has been devastated by the loss of coal jobs…

The governor says six-thousand mining jobs have been lost in the last 18 months. Congressman Rogers says the SOAR effort is a chance for eastern Kentuckians to craft a better future for the region and themselves…

Some 600 people have registered to participate in the summit, which is free and open to everyone.
