Soccer Edges Austin Peay On Late Goal

MSU Athletics

Jade Flory's goal with 17 seconds remaining gave the Morehead State soccer team a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Austin Peay Lady Govs Friday (October 18) at Morgan Brothers Field.

The winning goal was set up using a run down the far side by freshman forward Angela Black, whose cross into the box was finished by Flory.

Trailing 2-0, MSU (5-9-1, 4-2) got on the board in the 50th minute on Black's third goal of the season, as she stole an errant pass and raced past the last defender, before beating the Austin Peay (9-3-2, 4-2-1) goalkeeper.

The Eagles were able to tie the match on Flory's first goal of the contest 7:30 later, after a long pass from junior midfielder Holly Tilley, Flory beat the goalkeeper and slid the ball into an empty net.

After each defense dictated the first 30 minutes of play, the Lady Govs opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, when Andy Quiceno slid a shot past the MSU goalkeeper. APSU struck again, 52 seconds later on a counter attack, as Shelby Olszewski headed home Gina Fabbro's well placed cross.

MSU had multiple first half opportunities cleared away by the APSU defense before shots could be taken. The Lady Govs held a 5-2 shots advantage in the first half, which included a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. Each team took two first half corner kicks.

Austin Peay finished the match with a 12-7 lead in shots and a 5-4 shots on goal advantage. The Eagles were just the second team to score more than one goal against the Lady Govs in 2013.

MSU returns to action on Sunday (October 20) at MSU’s Jayne Stadium for a 1 p.m. OVC match with Murray State.
