Toyota's Georgetown Plant Celebrates Milestone

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky today (May 29) celebrated the production of the ten-millionth vehicle at its Georgetown plant. The historic vehicle was a Camry.

In a ceremony at the mill, the new auto was parked right next to the first vehicle to come off the line 26 years ago. That was also a Camry.

Rick Hesterberg is assistant manager of TMMK.  He says it’s quite a milestone.

“Ten million Toyotas is also enough to circle the world and then some. But for us, ten million is more than just a number and today, we’re here to celebrate all that it truly means and for some of our team members, it’s probably meant half a lifetime or at least a way of life. And for those who are just getting started here with our company, it means a bright future.” –Rick Hesterberg

Among those on hand for the celebration was Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson.

“We are so excited to be here to with you today to stop for a moment and really appreciate the ten millionth car that’s made fresh daily here at Toyota Georgetown. Congratulations.” –Jerry Abramson.

Kentucky’s Toyota plant employs seven-thousand people. In addition to the Camry, it also makes the Avalon and Venza. In 2015, it’ll become the first facility in the U.S. to produce a Lexus vehicle.
