Transportation Cabinet Accepting Comments Until Dec. 4 on KY 59, KY 344, KY 377 Planning Study

SurfKY.com

If you missed the recent public meeting about ways to improve travel between Vanceburg and Morehead, it’s not too late to make comments on the Transportation Cabinet’s future highway plans.

Comments will be accepted until Dec. 4 on the KY 59, KY 344 and KY 377 planning study. See the “Active Planning Studies” online at: http://transportation.ky.gov/YourTurn

The planning study, being done under a $500,000 Transportation Cabinet contract with engineering firm Qk4, is the very first step toward practical improvements that reduce travel time and enhance safety between Vanceburg and Morehead while improving regional connectivity from the AA Highway to Interstate 64.

Engineering analysis and an earlier public meeting this summer identified several alternatives such as spot improvements and building new, wider sections of highway in various locations along current state highways between the AA Highway at Vanceburg and Big Perry Road in northern Rowan County.

At a Nov. 12 public meeting, engineers presented maps of the alternatives, and asked the public to decide whether they want spot improvements, total reconstruction or no changes. For those who favored construction, engineers asked which alternatives should be advanced for further study.

There is a Dec. 4 deadline for all comments.

Written statements can also be addressed to: Joe Callahan, P.E., Kentucky Department of Highways, District 9 Office, P.O. Box 347, Flemingsburg, Ky., 41041, by that date.

Data gathered will be used when considering what alternative or series of alternatives should be advanced for further study or design. Any construction, if recommended, would occur years from now following design, right of way, and utility relocation phases.
