University of Kentucky’s Police Chief Joe Monroe says his vision a few years ago to put some cameras on campus has morphed into a larger project. U-K is now ready to invest 4.8 million dollars into enhancing security through modern technology.

“We’ve contracted with Next Level Systems as an access control and video management platform. We’ll be using them to put access control on to a lot of the buildings on campus and all new buildings moving forward on campus...as well as cameras in the public areas to help us be able to record any type of crime as well as deter crime that might occur.” –Joe Monroe

The University of Kentucky is also adding specialized locks on several buildings. ID cards will have to be used in order for students and employees to enter buildings after hours.
