Vigil planned for Wednesday

A community group is planning a vigil in downtown Morehead this Wednesday.

The "Confronting Corruption and Defending Democracy" vigil will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fountain Park, the corner of Main St. and Flemingsburg Rd., across from Wendy’s.

Organizers says the vigil is in response to recent government decisions, including state cuts in Medicaid dental and vision coverage, and new federal policies splitting up or jailing immigrant and refugee families.  Voter suppression and gerrymandering are also concerns.

Sponsored by Indivisible East Kentucky, MoveOn.org, and other organizations, the non-violent, family-friendly vigil will include speakers, educational materials, voter registration, and a rally supporting voter rights, health care and family-friendly immigration policies.

Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to bring signs, and there will be sign-making materials available also.  At least 75 vigils are planned all over the country for the same day.
