Volleyball Blanks EKU for 25th Straight OVC Win

The Morehead State volleyball team used an 11-1 blocking advantage to record a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-18, 25-16) over Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday evening at Wetherby Gym.

The Eagles improved to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play with their 25th consecutive league win. The Colonels fell to 7-10 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. The victory was also MSU's 15th straight over EKU.

Sophomore middle blocker Hannah Sigala led Morehead State with a career-high eight blocks, while senior outside hitter Aryn Bohannon contributed seven. The Eagles registered 20 block assists and limited the Colonels to an .042 hitting percentage.

Junior right-side hitter Alex Fitzmorris paced Morehead State's offense with 10 kills, while senior defensive specialist Lindsey Roth led three Eagles in double-figure digs with 13. Junior setter Colby Cameron dished out 26 assists and helped MSU to a .222 attack percentage.

Morehead State used a 10-1 run to open up a six-point lead in the first set. The spurt included two MSU blocks and eight EKU attack errors. The Colonels got no closer than three points the remainder of the set.

The Eagles never trailed in sets two and three. Morehead State's big lead was eight points in the second set and nine points in the third.

Morehead State limited Eastern Kentucky to .000 attack percentages in sets one and two, while hitting .412 in the final set.

Senior outside hitter Ashley Edmond led Eastern Kentucky with a match-best 11 kills, while junior defensive specialist Dena Ott collected a match-high 23 digs.

The Eagles continue OVC play on Saturday at Murray State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET. Morehead State returns to Wetherby Gym for a conference weekend Oct. 11-12 against Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.
