Warming Centers Open Across The State

With wind chills below 0, warming centers are opening their doors.

A Winter Chill Advisory has been issued by the Lexington-Fayette County Division of Emergency Management. It warns of dangerous wind chills of negative five and ten degrees will last well into this afternoon. Warming centers are opening their doors here in Lexington and across the state to make sure no one is left in the cold. The agency’s Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention Weather Plan is also in effect and has been since before Christmas. Shelters are open 24-7 and volunteers have been canvassing the city to encourage the city’s homeless population to come in from the frigid temperatures, especially at night. In these conditions, you can develop frostbite in just 30 minutes.
