'Winter Choral Showcase' concert set for March 4

The annual Winter Choral Showcase concert will be presented Tuesday, March 4, at 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 123 East Main Street. 

Morehead State University’s Chamber Singers, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, University Chorus, Black Gospel Ensemble and Concert Choir all will perform.

The event is free and open to the public.

Chamber Singers will begin the concert with Gerald Finzi’s My Spirit Sang All Day. They also will perform Agnus Dei from William Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices and Jesu Dulcis Memoria by Ivo Antognini. University Chorus will follow with A Hymn to God the Father by John Ness Beck, Your Voices Tune by Handel, and Tres Cantos Nativos Das Indios Krao by Marcus Leite.

Concert Choir will form the center of the concert singing music they are will perform on their Ireland tour in May. Psalm 57 by John Tebay is a piece they will present in international choral competition at the Mayo Festival. Os Justi is a motet by the Romantic period master, Anton Bruckner. It is programmed to allow the choir to enjoy the acoustics of Irish cathedrals. Alleluia: Incantations by Michael McGlynn gives the choir a chance to sing the Irish language and I Can Tell the World by Moses Hogan is the traditional spiritual closer which European audiences so enjoy.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Black Gospel Ensemble will conclude the concert. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform Take 5 arranged by Kirby Shaw and I Could Write a Book and There’s No Greater Love arranged by Jerry Tolson. Black Gospel Ensemble will sing Right Here by John Kree, Testimony by Roosevelt Escalante, Jr., and Do It Again by Anthony Brown.
