Women's Basketball Receives Automatic Invitation to Women's NIT

Morehead State Athletics

Morehead State women's basketball has automatically qualified for a berth in the Women's National Invitation Tournament, marking the program's first appearance in school history.

After posting a 21-9 overall record that included a nine-game winning streak from Dec. 3 to Jan. 11, the Eagles finished the year with an 11-5 tally in the Ohio Valley Conference. Morehead State boasted the second best record in the OVC this season, totaling its most overall and conference wins since 2010-11.

The WNIT is a 64-team single-elimination event, tipping off on Wednesday, March 15. The official tournament field will be announced on Monday, March 13, though two other teams - New Hampshire of the America East Conference and Mercer of the Southern Conference - have also received automatic invitations.

The Eagles have not appeared in a national postseason tournament since dropping a 67-59 decision to the College of Charleston in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2009-10.
