Women's Soccer Draws In Exhibition Opener

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State Soccer team saw its lone exhibition contest of the season finish in a 1-1 draw with the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers Sunday (August 18) at Jayne Stadium. Neither team could find a game-winner, despite two, 10 minute overtime periods.

The Lady Toppers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, when Haley Baldridge's shot from 25 yards out sailed over the fingertips of MSU sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlynn Murphy. After a potential game-tying goal was waived off due to an offside call in the 57th minute, the Eagles tied the match at 60:20 when junior forward Jade Flory headed in a free kick by sophomore back Macy Kootz.

MSU finished with 14 shots, with three on goal, while the Lady Toppers forced three Eagle saves on nine total shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Seemen held the Lady Toppers scoreless for 75 minutes, as she saw all of the action in the entire second half and both overtime periods.

MSU begins its season Friday (August 23) with defending Big Ten Tournament Champion Ohio State. Kickoff is set for 7pm at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus (Ohio).
