Rowan's Old Animal Shelter Stays Open

Sep 18, 2013

There are no plans right now to close Rowan County’s old animal shelter in Farmers…That’s the word from Judge Executive Jim Nickell. Even though a new regional facility has now opened in Clearfield, Nickell says the old building will be maintained.

He says it’s located on property owned by the Morehead Utility Plant Board…

Nickell says the old animal shelter is still in pretty good shape. He says it just has an unfortunate location in a flood plain.

There was a ribbon-cutting today to mark the official opening of a new animal shelter to serve Rowan, Fleming and Bath Counties. Kentucky State Police have arrested an armed man who barricaded himself inside an Olive Hill home early this morning…and Bath County’s judge executive predicts more economic development in his county following last week’s announcement that CTI Foods is investing 44-million dollars in its Owingsville plant.

Regional Animal Shelter Near Morehead Opens

Sep 17, 2013

Officials from Rowan, Fleming and Bath Counties were on hand this afternoon for a ribbon-cutting to mark the official opening of a new, regional animal shelter. The $250,000 facility is along Kentucky 519 in Clearfield and will be able to accommodate more than 60 animals from the three counties.

Jim Nickell is Rowan’s judge executive. He says the 3,100 square foot structure is superior to the county’s old shelter in Farmers…

Volunteers from Morehead’s Inspiration Center did much of the painting on the inside of the shelter. A state grant helped pay for most of the project.
