BFA Art and Design Exhibition, April 26-May 10

The Claypool-Young Art Gallery at Morehead State University will host its "2017 Annual BFA Art & Design Exhibition", April 26 through May 10.   The second annual show is an opportunity for MSU Department of Art & Design B.F.A. candidates to exhibit as emerging artists in a large group exhibition.  The exhibition opens with a reception featuring live music by The Canninghams and complimentary refreshments on Wednesday, April 26 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

New Artisan Review Application Deadline April 30

Three times a year the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea holds review sessions to consider works and products by Kentucky artisans who are not juried members of the Kentucky Arts Council programs or the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen.  Applications for the next review session are due April 30.

Application categories are:

·         Visual Arts (crafts, and two-dimensional art)

·         Books

·         Music, Storytelling and other recordings/Films

·         Kentucky Proud food products

·         Beauty products

MSU to Host High School Art Exhibition, Competition

The Claypool-Young Art Gallery at Morehead State University will be hosting the Burley-Coal High School Art Exhibition & Competition, March 8 through 15.   The annual show is organized in partnership with the Kentucky Art Education Association, and features high school artwork from around the region.  The exhibition will be open for special Saturday hours on March 11 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.


Kentucky artists are invited to participate in the Bluegrass Biennial 2016, a juried exhibition of contemporary artworks of Kentuckians, which will be displayed from June 6 through Aug. 24 in the main gallery of Morehead State University’s Claypool-Young Art Building.

A closing reception and juror’s talk will be held Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5 - 7 p.m.

The Bluegrass Biennial exhibition is open to all artists 18 years who are residing in Kentucky. Awards will be presented for Best in Show ($500) and Merit ($100 each).


Kentucky Crafted: The Market has been named one of Southeast Tourism Society's Top 20 Events for March 2015.

The Market is the Kentucky Arts Council's signature event, produced each spring and featuring the highest quality art, craft, literature, music and food found in Kentucky.


The hallways of the Capitol Annex are vibrant with art, as "Kentucky Visions at the Capitol" is on exhibit through March 30.

The annual Kentucky Arts Council exhibit features 56 pieces of artwork by 20 Kentucky artists, including three Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship recipients and 17 artists in the Kentucky Crafted program. The works displayed have met the arts council's criteria of artistic excellence as judged by independent panels of arts professionals.

The Gateway Regional Arts Center in Mount Sterling will host the Kentucky Arts Council's "Makings of a Master" exhibit, a celebration of Kentucky Folk Art Apprenticeships, from August 1 – 29.

Visitors to the "Makings of a Master" exhibit will explore the relationship between master and apprentice through artifacts, videos and activities, as well as live performances and demonstrations.


An exhibit of the fine sporting art, American paintings and sculpture cataloged for the inaugural Sporting Art Auction will be open to the public Monday-Saturday, Oct. 28-Nov. 2, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Keeneland Sales Pavilion.

The Sporting Art Auction will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m. in the Keeneland Sales Pavilion. The public also is welcome to view the artwork during the November Breeding Stock Sale, which runs Nov. 5-14.
