‘The Hills Are Alive’ slated for April 23

Morehead State University Opera will present “The Hills Are Alive,” an evening of scenes from music, theater, operetta, and opera on Sunday, April 23, at 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall of the Baird Music Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

The theme for the evening is Austria, music from and about Austria. It will include scenes from “The Sound of Music,” “The Marriage of Figar,” “Don Giovanni,” “Die Tote Stadt,” “Die Fledermaus,” and “The Merry Widow.”

Contemporary Music Festival slated for April 18-20

Morehead State University’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance and the Theta Pi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia will present the fifth biennial Contemporary Music Festival, April 18-20.

The Contemporary Music Festival is a three-day event which hosts a renowned contemporary composer on the MSU campus to work with students and faculty members.

Morehead State University’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will present three free concerts at three churches across the state.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday, April 10, at 7 p.m. at Shively Baptist Church, 1599 Sadie Lane, Louisville

Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at Parkway Baptist Church, 2580 Springfield Road, Bardstown

Thursday, April 13, at 7:30 pm at First Baptist Church, 123 East Main Street, Morehead

6th Annual MSU Clarinet Day slated for April 8

Morehead State University’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance will host its 6th Annual MSU Clarinet Day, Saturday, April 8, at Baird Music Hall.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sessions will start at 10 a.m. The day will conclude with a free concert that is open to the public at 3:30 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall within the Baird Music Hall.

The event is a day-long clarinet workshop: masterclass, a clinic on the Alexander Technique, guest artist recital, and new this year, a clarinet honor choir for all participants to play in.

Winter Choral Showcase Concert at MSU

The annual Winter Choral Showcase Concert will be presented Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 123 East Main Street in Morehead.

Morehead State University Chorus, Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Jazz Vocal Ensemble and Black Gospel Ensemble will all will perform.

The event is free and open to the public.

University Chorus will begin the concert with Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and “Ukuthula” (An African Prayer for Peace) by Andre van der Merwe.
