Morehead State freshman Farah Abdulkarim set the school 10K record, while sophomore Justin Moakler ran the second fastest men's 10K time in program history, and women's freshman Caitlin Cunningham carded the 10th fastest 6K time in MSU history at the NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional Friday at Panorama Farms.
Abdulkarim, who finished fourth two weeks at the OVC Championships, eclipsed Zachariah Elliott's previous school standard of 30:37.60, also set the at the NCAA Regional in 2013. Abdulkarim finished 18th among 203 runners with a time of 29:51.80.
Moakler, who was sixth at the OVC meet, came across the finish line in 29th place, also beating Elliott's mark with a time of 30:14.90. The MSU men finished 14th amongst the 29 teams competing.
Cunningham covered the 6K course in 23:00.80, which just slipped into the 10th spot on the MSU all-time performance chart.
Rounding out the men's top five was sophomore Corey Tooke (31:27.30), sophomore Jackson Cooper (31:46.00) and freshman Aaron Weir (32:20.60).
The women's top five also included sophomore Kansas Greenwell (23:02.10), senior Mackenzie Butler (23:13.50), senior Hannah Bailey (23:19.80) and senior Alex Morris (23:26.00).
The event concluded the cross country season for 2016. The Eagle women will now compete for the first time in several years officially in indoor track, while the men will officially kick off the outdoor season in the spring.
