MSU Athletics

Morehead State senior right-hander Matt Anderson has been named to the watch list for National Pitcher of the Year. The award is presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Anderson hails from McDonough, Ga. The award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the annual Night of Champions event.

Anderson ranks in the top 10 nationally in strikeouts (78) and strikeouts per nine innings (14). He ranks second in the OVC in Ks, only one behind Southeast Missouri's Joey Lucchesi, who is also on the watch list.

He has three double-digit strikeout performances, highlighted by a career-high 16 in a win over Tennessee Tech. Overall, he is 5-1 with a team-best (starters) 2.73 earned run average. Opponents have only managed to hit .194 against him.

Morehead State plays a three-game series at SIU Edwardsville this weekend. Anderson is slated to start game one.
