Award-Winning Journalist Now Contributing to MSUEagles.com

MSU Athletics

Mark Maloney, whose journalistic career in Kentucky spans five decades, has joined MSUEagles.com as a contributing writer. Maloney will produce unique feature stories on all MSU Athletic teams and staff.

It was also announced this week that Maloney is the recipient of the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Media Lifetime Achievement Award.

"Congratulations to Mark on his award," Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs Brad Smith said. "We feel this will be a beneficial partnership for Morehead State Athletics. Mark's ability to tell the personal stories of our department will add an exciting element to our online strategy."

Maloney, who formerly worked for the Lexington Herald-Leader, covered the Ohio Valley Conference from 1977 until his retirement this past summer.

For the past seven years Maloney's assignment was the "beat" for both Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State, which allowed him to cover a high number of games in-person and saw him produce unique and interesting content on student-athletes from each institution.

Maloney was honored by the Kentucky Press Association with first-place awards for "best sports feature" and "best sports story" in addition to winning numerous honorable mentions in those categories. He has also won a "women's sports media" accolade from the Women's Sports Foundation.

Maloney, a 1973 graduate of Akron, has also covered many Olympic sports throughout his career, having the opportunity to cover many Kentucky state high school championships in softball, baseball, swimming and diving, tennis and cross country/track and field.

His first feature, an article on senior football running back Rob Harden, is slated to be out this week.
