Clothing Donations Needed For Displaced Children

Cody Evans, The Ledger Independent

A clothing drive to benefit children removed from their homes is being sponsored by the Department of Children Based Services with help from CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Donations of new clothing are being sought for children of all ages and both sexes from newborn up to the age of 18. All clothing must have a sales tag attached and used clothing is not accepted.

CASA Executive Director Shanda Hamilton said all sizes of clothing are needed from newborn sizes up. Hamilton said items needed include undergarments, socks, shoes, pants, shirts and outerwear.

She said when children must be removed from their homes, some leave with very little clothing or nothing at all due to environmental reasons.

Because supplies are running low, the Department of Children Based Services, part of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, offices in Bracken, Fleming and Mason counties are turning to the community for help.

Hamilton said by getting citizens in each county involved, the clothing collected will benefit children in all three counties, not just one.

Hamilton added that because April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, her office wanted to partner with DCBS on the project.

Donations of new clothing can be dropped at one of the three DCBS offices:

753 Brooksville-Powersville Road, Brooksville,

101-B Clark Street, Flemingsburg,

201 Government Street, Second Floor, Maysville.

Office hours are Monday- Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CASA has partnered with Tumbleweed Restaurant for a Sharing a Day with CASA on April 9 and Hardee's Restaurant is hosting a Sharing a Day with CASA on April 24. Wear Blue Day for Child Abuse Prevention Month is April 10.
