Eagles Rally To Beat Campbell

Junior right-side hitter Alex Fitzmorris crushed a career-high 19 kills and hit .421 to help guide the Morehead State volleyball team to a come-from-behind 3-1 win (23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17) over Campbell in the finale of the Eagle Challenge Tournament Saturday (September 14) at MSU’sWetherby Gym.

Fitzmorris only misfired on three attacks and also added three blocks to help MSU improve to 6-4. Campbell, who is led by former MSU Associate Head Coach Greg Goral, fell to 7-4.

The Eagles also got 16 kills and a season-high 21 digs from senior outside hitter ArynBohannon. Senior libero Leslie Schellhaas followed up a 28-dig effort in the day's earlier match with 24 scoops tonight. Senior defensive specialist Lindsey Roth recorded a career-high 19 digs as the Eagles out-dug the Camels, 84-67.

Fitzmorris and Schellhaas were named to the all-tournament team.

Junior setter Colbey Cameron handed out 50 assists and added six kills for MSU, while sophomore outside hitter Courtney Smith tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Hannah Sigala recorded a team-best five total blocks.

Campbell didn't see any players reach double figures in kills. Katelyn Layden landed a team-high eight winners. Libero Mary Crema led all players with 25 digs.

Morehead State won set two by registering a .325 hitting percentage via 17 kills. The Eagles gained 20 of their 25 points in the final set via kills.

The Eagles' next action is set for Friday (September 20) when MSU faces Rutgers and Cornell at the Pittsburgh Panther Invitational.
