Flory's 'Hat Trick' Lifts Eagles Past Colonels

MSU Athletics

Junior forward Jade Flory scored three goals to help lift the Morehead State soccer team to a 4-0 victory over in-state rival Eastern Kentucky Friday (November 1) at MSU’s Jayne Stadium. It marked the regular season finale for both teams.

With 13 goals this year, Flory stands just two shy of former Eagle Christina Moore's single-season mark set in 2000.

The Eagles (8-10-1, 7-3) opened the scoring in the 15th minute on Flory's11th tally of the season as she took a long pass and beat the EKU (5-12-2, 4-5-1) keeper.

Flory stuck again 2:48 later by finishing a second one-versus-one opportunity with the goalkeeper following a long pass from sophomore defender Kelsey Gomez.

Junior midfielder Caity Fox gave the Eagles a three-goal advantage in the 24th minute on a long-range shot from 25 yards out.

Flory completed the hat trick in the 55th minute when junior midfielder Elizabeth McSparin's header nearly found its way in, but Flory was there to put it away.

MSU held a decisive 14-1 edge in shots after the first 45 minutes. The Eagles forced four first-half saves.  Morehead State finished with a 22-3 shot advantage, while allowing just one shot on goal. MSU forced nine saves from Erika Wolfer, including five in the second half.

MSU awaits the results from other action to determine its seeding and destination for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday, November 7.
