Improvements to Flemingsburg Bypass (KY 11) Begins April 6

Kentucky Department of Transportation

Contractors will begin a $3.3 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet improvement project next week, the week of April 6, along three miles of the Flemingsburg Bypass (KY 11) at Flemingsburg.

The project will rebuild part of the older section of the Flemingsburg Bypass between the Maysville Road-West Water Street intersection north of downtown past the hospital and Elizaville Road area to the KY 11 Business (Mt. Sterling Avenue) intersection south of downtown.

Work will include full-depth excavation in some areas, new blacktop, median and drainage improvements, additional turn lanes and other work.

Contractors expect to start the first phase of construction Monday, April 6, with milling and paving operations along the highway’s shoulders.

Lane closures are not expected, but shoulders will be closed and crews will stop traffic and use flaggers to route traffic past work areas. Expect stopped traffic and delays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays for approximately two weeks.

Once shoulder work is complete by late April, traffic will be shifted onto shoulders and construction will move to existing driving lanes. Motorists should watch message boards for traffic changes.

The work is being done by H.G. Mays Corporation under a $3,284,498.66 low-bid contract with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Completion is expected by September.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
