Kentucky Transportation Meeting Planned In Breathitt County

Residents of Breathitt and Owsley counties are invited to attend a public informational meeting to discuss a planning study of a proposed project to improve KY 30 between Booneville and Jackson.

The meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the Highland-Turner Elementary School in Breathitt County. It will be an “open house” format meeting with no formal presentation.

Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and project consultants will be available to answer questions and provide information about the planning study. Handouts will be available describing the proposed project’s purpose and need.

A study is underway to determine if improvements are feasible for KY 30 between Booneville and Jackson. If undertaken, the project would consist of reconstruction in some areas and spot improvements to the existing roadway in other areas.

An improved highway would increase safety and decrease travel time between the county seats of Breathitt and Owsley counties, providing the residents of Owsley County and the western portion of Breathitt County better access to medical care and educational opportunities.

Persons with disabilities who wish to attend the meeting but have special accessibility needs that require assistance should contact the project manager, Jason Blackburn, at (606) 666-8841 to request special assistance.
