A friend of Morehead State University and this radio station has died. Former WMKY General Manager and MSU faculty member Larry Netherton passed away Friday in Louisville. He was 75. Netherton served the university and WMKY for 25 years, retiring in 1996. The studio from which we are broadcasting is named after him. WMKY was unquestionably one of his passions and he loved NPR. Every radio in his house was tuned to 90.3 FM.
Though he and wife, Mary Jo, moved to Shelbyville several years ago to be near their daughter, Larry was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Morehead. He was known as an advocate for civil rights, the environment and wildlife. According to the family, no services are planned at this time but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
