While Morehead and Rowan County will partner on the building of a $600,000 splash pad this summer, local residents continue to express hope that the area will one day have another municipal pool.
The city closed and demolished its pool at the Greenhill City Park in 2014 because of dangerous structural problems.
Parks and Recreation Director David Morris says it's possible a new pool will be built next to the splash pad on the land the city bought last year across from the park.
Morris said there aren't enough funds available at the moment to build a new municipal pool, much less the thousands of dollars a year needed to operate and maintain it.
