Morehead to Host Highway Safety Summit

Stern Law

The Morehead Conference Center will be the site of a summit on highway safety this summer.

The event will take place June 10th and 11th and is being hosted by the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety.

Director Bill Bell says the meetings are for law enforcement agencies, emergency responders and others and include updates on how new legislation affects their work.

He says the General Assembly this year passed a couple of bills impacting highway safety. One of them, Bell explains, has to do with child safety seats and the other with DUI offenders.

“The ignition interlock bill, and when it becomes law, will require second and subsequent offenders to blow into a device to be able to start their car. And also, it does affect some first time offenders that have aggravators, so we’re going to be talking about that and how it affects law enforcement as well.”

Bell says his office is having just two highway safety summits this year. The other is in May and takes place in Owensboro.
