MSU Baseball to Face Louisville in NCAA Regional

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State baseball team has been selected for the NCAA Louisville Regional. The Eagles will open play against the host Cardinals at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, May 29. All regional games will be at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Bradley, from the Missouri Valley Conference, and Michigan, from the Big Ten Conference, are also at the Louisville Regional and face each other at 2 p.m. Friday.

All contests in the double elimination event will be shown live on ESPN3. The winner advances to the Super Regional where it will face the winner of the Cal-State Fullerton Regional. Jim Patterson Stadium is located at 3015 South Third Street.

Single-game tickets are $15 for reserved chair-back, $10 for general admission and $5 for college students with a valid ID. All-tournament passes are $70 for reserved chair-back, $55 for general admission and $45 for students.

"We are very excited to be going to a regional," Head Coach Mike McGuire, who is the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year, said.

"Louisville has a great program, but we are excited to be playing there. It is close enough that we should have a great crowd follow us. We have played at their venue before so that should help us out. It is a great field of teams. Michigan has been very successful here at the end of the year, and Bradley played deep into the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament,” McGuire added.

Louisville (43-16), the No. 3 national seed in the field of 64 and the top seed at its regional, won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title and set a league record for overall wins. The Cardinals, who are 25-6 at home this season, are making their ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. U of L leads the series with MSU 44-35. The teams met every season from 1999-2014.

Morehead State (38-20), which won the OVC Tournament for the first time 1993, is making its first regional appearance since 1983. That season, the Eagles played at the Michigan Regional where they went 2-2. MSU lost to the host Wolverines before defeating Indiana State and Miami (Ohio). Michigan then topped the Eagles to win the event. MSU also advanced to a regional in 1977 in Miami, Fla., falling to Miami and Mississippi.

The Eagles, who enter the NCAA Tournament with wins in 27 of their last 34 games, have established school records for overall wins and conference wins (20) this year. MSU currently leads the nation in batting average, hits, doubles, doubles per game, slugging percentage, runs and runs per game.

Bradley (35-19), the number two seed for the event, is an at-large selection. The Braves lost to No. 8 national seed Missouri State in the MVC championship game. Bradley is making its seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament but first since 1968 before the NCAA instituted its current regional format.

Michigan (37-23) is the number three seed in the regional and an automatic qualifier after winning four straight games to claim the Big 10 Tournament title. The Wolverines are in the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd time and first time since 2008.
