Recanvass Completed on Fleming County Judge-Executive Race

The Missouri Times

The vote totals in the Fleming County judge-executive's race remained the same after a recanvass was completed Thursday, Nov. 13.

According to a spokesperson with the Fleming County Clerk's office, the recanvass was completed at 9 a.m., Thursday, at the request of Kenneth Souder, who ran against incumbent Larry Foxworthy for the position of judge-executive in the Nov. 4 election.

Foxworthy, a Republican, received 3,211 votes, while Souder, an Independent, received 1,516 votes.

According to Fleming County Clerk Jarrod Fritz, Souder did not provide a reason for wanting to recanvass, other than believing a recanvass needed to be done.

The spokesperson said Souder was in South Carolina and not present for the recanvass.

During the recanvass, the county clerk checked voting machine totals to make sure the numbers matched up to the numbers counted on election night. If the numbers did not match up then the recanvass numbers from the machine are considered the official totals.

A recanvass is different than a recount, which could have to be completed by the circuit clerk and would require every vote to be recounted.

A recanvass can be requested by either an election official or a candidate. If a candidate requests a recount or recanvass they must submit, in writing, their reason for the recanvass.
