Teenager Injured at Fleming County High School Returns Home

Fleming County School System

A Fleming County teenager has returned home after being hospitalized with an injury inflicted during a stunt in the Fleming County High School parking lot.

According to Fleming County Sheriff Gary Kinder, the teenager, who's name is not being released, was in the parking lot of the high school with friends on Monday afternoon when he jumped on the hood of one of their cars as it was pulling out.

The friend slammed his break, causing the teenager to fall and hit his head on the pavement.

"He busted his head and it caused him to go into a seizure," Kinder said. "He went to Fleming County Hospital and was sent to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries."

Kinder said the boy's father was in his office Wednesday to say the boy had returned home and was doing well.

"His injuries were not too serious," Kinder said. "He has a little memory loss, but for the most part, he is recovering."

According to Kinder, the injury was the result of horseplay that went too far.

"It was just horseplay -- something that could have easily been prevented," he said.

Superintendent Brian Creasman said he is happy to hear the student is improving and looks forward to his return to school.

"We're thankful that this wasn't a tragic accident," Creasman said. "We're very happy to hear he is home and doing well. The school is working with him and we can't wait to see him back in school."

Creasman said this offers the school an opportunity to stress safety.

"And, we need to work with the schools to inform students why they need to drive safe in the parking lots so something like this doesn't happen again," he said.
