Traffic Advisories in Bath, Fleming and Rowan Counties

US DOT

More than $1.3 million of improvements to KY 11 in Bath and Fleming counties and KY 801 in Rowan County will mean lane closures and other traffic changes beginning the week of May 11 along 26 miles of state highway.

The projects, which were awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to Strawser Construction Inc., include pavement sealing and microsurface paving operations in these areas:

·         KY 11 in Bath County, from the Montgomery County line north past Sharpsburg to KY 1106 near Bethel, for a distance of 7.5 miles

·         KY 11 in Fleming County, from the Licking River bridge near the county line north to Meadows Lane near the Flemingsburg Bypass, for a distance of 10.2 miles

·         KY 801 in Rowan County, along Cave Run Lake between the KY 519 and the KY 826 intersections, for a distance of 8.4 miles

Microsurfacing is a high-tech process that uses a thin layer of quick-set, grout-like paving material to preserve the roadway surface. It seals pavement cracks, prevents pavement from degrading and can improve surface friction.

The work is similar to asphalt paving, and will require traffic lane closures during dawn-to-dusk operations. Contractors are installing work zone signs and sealing pavement now, and plan to begin microsurfacing operations on or about May 14 along KY 11 and May 16 along KY 801.

That week and the next, May 11-22, motorists should expect daily lane closures and delays with traffic controlled by flaggers along short sections of each roadway. Message boards will be used to announce traffic changes.

Motorists are also advised to avoid driving on newly placed paving material, which means traffic on side roads may be stopped for lengthy periods of time. Contractors will be available to assist motorists at intersections.

In addition, chip-seal paving will be taking place those weeks along KY 2522 (old US 60) at Farmers in Rowan County. Motorists should watch for lane closures there as well, especially near the KY 801 intersection.

Other work, such as shoulder repairs and final striping, will continue through June 1, with possible traffic changes where crews are working.

Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones, reduce distractions, and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
