Winter Storm Warning Through 7pm Saturday

WYFF

The National Weather Service in Jackson (KY) has issued a winter storm warning in effect from 7:00pm Friday through 7:00pm Saturday.

Another winter storm system will move into eastern Kentucky Friday evening and continue through Saturday.

The overnight low on Friday will be 16 degrees and a high on Saturday of 36 degrees. Saturday night's low will be 31 degrees and Sunday's high expected near 38 degrees. Chance of precipitation Friday night is 90 percent, 100 percent on Saturday, 80 percent Saturday night and 40 percent on Sunday.

Precipitation will initially begin as snow across the region. Warmer air will arrive on Saturday with a change to sleet and freezing rain. Snow and sleet accumulations of four to six inches are expected.

Travel will become hazardous beginning late Friday night and continuing throughout the weekend. The heavy and wet nature of the snow and sleet will also bring the threat of power outages. Deep snow accumulation on roofs and shelters may result in roof collapse on weaker structures.

Travel is not recommended and only in emergencies. If you must travel, allow extra time on the road and leave a space cushion of 500 feet between cars. Wear warm clothes, pack blankets, bottled water, and flashlight with extra batteries.
