The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea salutes photographer Mary S. Rezny as the creator of the Kentucky Governor’s Awards in the Arts, given to eleven Kentucky Governor’s Awards recipients at a recent ceremony in Frankfort.

The Governor’s Awards in the Arts are the Commonwealth’s highest honors in the arts, recognizing individuals, organizations and businesses that have made extraordinary and significant contributions to the arts in Kentucky.

New Artisan Review Application Deadline April 30

Three times a year the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea holds review sessions to consider works and products by Kentucky artisans who are not juried members of the Kentucky Arts Council programs or the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen.  Applications for the next review session are due April 30.

Application categories are:

·         Visual Arts (crafts, and two-dimensional art)

·         Books

·         Music, Storytelling and other recordings/Films

·         Kentucky Proud food products

·         Beauty products

Kentucky Artisan Center

The Kentucky Artisan Center will feature basketry during the month of March with artist demonstrations showcasing a wide variety of Easter baskets. Artists will be making baskets from tree bark, reed and vines. All demonstrations at the Center are on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, March 4, Robin Reed, of Irvine, will create baskets from bark from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

December brings colder temperatures, but all is cheerful and warm for shoppers and visitors at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea where a variety of musical performances and artisan demonstrations will enhance the shopping experience.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, Sherrie Cocanougher, of Parksville, will demonstrate how she creates jewelry from antique sterling silverware from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Center.

Working with glass has been Cocanougher’s main medium and she creates her glass beads using soft glass from Moretti, annealing them in a digitally controlled kiln.

Give a Gift Made in Kentucky Campaign Kicks Off

The Kentucky Arts Council, with the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, launched the 2016 “Give a Gift Made in Kentucky” campaign today. The campaign, which features a variety of work by Kentucky-based artists, will run through Dec. 31.

Kentucky’s two-dimensional artists who work in large formats are invited to submit entries for the new exhibit program "Reveal" at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

This new exhibit program will select one artist to showcase from January 7 – April 30, 2017, in the center’s lobby. Reveal exhibits will become a regular part of the center’s exhibition schedule through an annual statewide call-to-artists.
